World Mental Health Day

It’s hard to believe that once upon a time we lived in a world where if you felt sad you were told “you’ll get over it”. If you felt depressed “pick yourself up by your bootstraps”. To the credit of the generations of yesteryear, our break-up or issues at work may not seem that serious considering they did have major crises like the Great Depression, The Dust Bowl, WWI and WWII to endure. Nonetheless, that doesn’t change the fact that our thoughts and feelings are very real and very serious to us. More often than not, we have zero control over how a situation affects our mental health- because if that was the case we would all be fine all the time!

What is “World Mental Health Day”?

World Mental Health Day is October 10. While it may seem new, it has been held in observance since 1992. It was created by the World Federation for Mental Health to bring awareness to mental health issues. The goal is to help those experiencing mental health issues. For the 2024 theme, the World Health Organization(WHO) has placed a spotlight on mental health at work.

Work and Our Mental Health

It should come as no surprise that work is stressful, and rest assured that you are not alone. Remind yourself that the first tool in changing anything is awareness. Head on over to the official WHO website for more information, resources and events.
